This is one question that I have been asked a lot. Literally!
And, for a fact that it’s been quiet a time that now I’m a blogger + I’m into a full time 9 to 5 job as well, I thought this is the perfect time to talk about this.
So, let’s start :
- Do you have to quit your day job in order to run and manage your blog?
- My answer is NO!
Reason for NO is :
Blog needs a hell lot of money in it’s initial stage to run at it’s best. The investment that goes in blogging is in buying following things :
- Domain name
- Makeup Artist
- Clothes or whatever products you want to write a blog post on. You need to buy it, try it and speak about it. That requires hell lot of money.
Once you are done with these things, and you are also a perfectionist i.e. you want everything to be on point, there goes some add on investments like :
- Setting up a background
- Photoshop/Lightroom for best picture editing
Trust me when I say this, list is never ending.
Now, if are a rich brat (you know what I mean) , you still can’t leave your boss, because you first need to find your interest and niche. You might like blogging and might fancy it much but you never know. You might find it boring, too stressful (because it is!), your creativity issue, or anything. So, first you need to learn about your interests. Therefore, START EXPERIMENTING!
HERE ARE MY PRO TIPS ON HOW TO RUN A BLOG WHEN YOU WORK FULL TIME
1 LEARN DURING YOUR FREE TIME
You are not a pro. You don’t know anything about SEO, what’s trending, writing/speaking skills, editing pictures, Facebook marketing, Instagram promotion – You don’t really know any bit of it and if you think you know everything, you are wrong. There is no end to learning.
Start by making a wordpress account and doing research on various topics and just start writing.
2. WORK WITH YOUR SCHEDULE
Clearly, your days are taken up by work. But if you find ways to easily incorporate photoshoots into your daily life, you’ll be able to get a lot done. For example, wake up at 4 in morning and wrap up your shoot by 6, just the way I do.
Keep your nights for editing and writing or scripting. This way you’ll be whole lot productive.
3. LOOK AT BLOGGING AS “ME TIME”
I enjoy blogging. This is a platform where I don’t owe any speech to anyone. I’m myself here. So I literally enjoy writing, editing and filming, basically doing everything related to my blog. Don’t count this as your work, count this as your passion and you will eventually find time for your baby blog.
4. SET REALISTIC GOALS AND SCHEDULE ACCORDINGLY
Don’t set your goals for posting 5 or even 4 times a week, that’s just not realistic. Set goals that can be achieved. Try and post 2-3 times a week. Schedule your day and time frame and trying following it. For example, fix your slot that every Monday and Thursday, 9 PM, you will publish something.
This way, you have whole week by yourself, planned and organised.
5. BE PATIENT
It’s easy to look at others’ Instagram accounts and feel envious of their large readership. But driving yourself crazy by trying to reach 100k followers when you currently have 2k is just not worth it. Choose realistic goals for yourself that you can work towards weekly, monthly, and yearly and be proud of yourself when you reach them!
Above all, don’t forget to pamper yourself. Take it easy!
You need fresh mind for creative ideas and there implementation.
These are few tips that I follow and keep me going. Hope you find these tips helpful. If you have any more question, write to me at firstname.lastname@example.org or follow me on Instagram , I usually answer all the queries there.
